BTEC Intermediate Award in Basic Firefighting Skills

The Fire Services Youth Training Association has achieved approved centre status from Edexcel, this allows the Association to offer Edexcel qualifications. One of these is the "BTEC Intermediate award in Basic Firefighting Skills" and is achieved on successful completion of the Association's "Young Person Development Programme".

The Young Person Development Programme is a structured training syllabus that is delivered by our Instructors to provide practical and theoretical training to young people in a variety of Fire Service related subjects.

At present enrolment into the programme/award can only be achieved by a person being connected to an approved member organisation as a Young Firefighter or Instructor. South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Young Firefighters Scheme, is an approved organisation and as such all members can enrol into the programme.

Once enrolled you have the opportunity to take part in a training and development programme that will develop your practical and personal skills. During the time you participate in the programme you will receive training and development that will enable you to demonstrate that you can effectively achieve a number of objectives. The programme has been divided into four stages, once you have achieved the required proficiency for each stage you will be presented with a certificate as recognition of this. On successful completion of all four stages you will be presented with  a BTEC Intermidiate Award in Basic Firefighting Skills.

There are four other BTEC pages,

  • Development Log
  • Learning Areas
  • Objectives
  • Reviews

These pages will provide you with advice and additional information to help you progress through the award.
